Inferno Hot Pilates class on mats in the heated room at Mission Yoga, San Francisco

Pilates at Mission Yoga

Hot Pilates in San Francisco’s Mission District

Inferno Hot Pilates is a low-impact, full-body mat workout in a room heated to about 99°F. Same Mission temple that has kept SF hot, healthy and weird for 25 years.

Beginners welcome. 2415 Mission St at 20th St. 5.0 stars from 1,400+ Google reviews.

What Is Inferno Hot Pilates?

Inferno Hot Pilates is a 60-minute interval workout built on Pilates principles and done on a mat, not a reformer. You move through core work, isometric holds and short cardio bursts set to music, in a room heated to about 99 to 100°F. It builds core strength and lean muscle without pounding your joints, and every move has an easier and a harder option. Think bridges, bicycles, toe taps and mountain climbers, with a teacher cueing you the whole way. Expect to sweat. Expect a playlist that makes the last round go faster.

Why Pilates at Mission Yoga?

Hot Yoga teaches you to hold still in the heat. Inferno Hot Pilates teaches you to move through it. Together they give you strength and conditioning alongside the mobility, balance and focus you build in the hot room. And if you came for Pilates, you get something most Pilates studios do not have: a 1,500 square foot temple full of local art, a tea lounge, breathwork, sound baths, and a community that has practiced together at 20th and Mission since 2001.

Already doing hot yoga?

Make Inferno your strength day. It challenges your core, stabilizing muscles and cardio endurance, then you are back on your yoga mat feeling it.

Coming from Pilates?

Same Pilates principles, turned up with heat and music. Stay for tea after class and you may meet half the neighborhood.

Your First Hot Pilates Class: How to Prepare

Your first class is not an audition. Here is everything you need to walk in ready.

  1. Before you come

Eat lightly 2 to 3 hours before class. Hydrate through the day, not just in the last hour. If you sweat a lot, consider electrolytes.

    What to wear

Light, breathable workout clothes that stay put when you sweat. You will practice barefoot. Bring a dry change of clothes for after.

    What to bring

A mat, a large towel to cover it, and a water bottle. No mat or towel? Rent them here. Filtered water is on site.

  2. When you arrive

Get here 15 minutes early and tell the front desk it is your first class. We will show you around. The doors lock when class begins.

    During class

Take a break whenever you need one and stay in the room. Your teacher will offer an easier option for any move.

The room changed. The practice never stopped. When we could not gather indoors, we practiced on the roof, then came back inside in 2021.

Took hot Pilates with Steve and it was fantastic. The heat was intimidating at first but was reassured to listen to your body and rest when needed.

Been to this studio twice and have had two very challenging, wholesome and unique experiences with 26&2 and Hot Pilates. I like that this yoga studio stands out from the sea of minimalist, white-walled studios ubiquitous across the country.
